American Management Association and the Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute Announce New Scholarship Program for Employees in Nonprofit and Social Sectors

May 14, 2007: NEW YORK-- Managers and executives in the nonprofit social sector can benefit from a new scholarship program developed in partnership between the American Management Association (AMA) and the Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute. AMA is providing up to 75 yearly scholarships administered by the Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute to qualified recipients beginning in 2007.

Scholarship recipients will benefit from a management education and professional development seminar offered by AMA. They also will receive a one-year Individual Membership benefits to each organization. AMA membership benefits include access to the AMA Members-only Website, subscriptions to e-newsletters and journals, and discount pricing on all other AMA products and services. A Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute membership includes a one-year subscription to Leader to Leader and discount pricing on the Institute's publications and services.

"Part of AMA's mission is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information on the latest management practices and business trends," said Pat Leonard, AMA's executive vice president for U.S. Management Education. "We are delighted to be working with the Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute on this new scholarship initiative to extend this opportunity to our colleagues in the nonprofit and social sectors."

Established in 1990 as the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management, the Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute engages social sector leaders in partnerships across the sectors that provide new and significant opportunities for learning and growth. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for the scholarships at www.leadertoleader.org.

"This partnership is a significant movement towards greater cross-sector collaboration, focused on strengthening the leadership of the social sector," said Robert Gaylord (Brig. Gen., U.S. Army, Ret.), president and CEO of the Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute. "The relationships, intellectual engagement and cross fertilization of ideas between social sector scholarship recipients and their peers from the private and public sectors that they meet throughout the year will better position them all for greater service to their organizations and communities. This truly is a win-win for the scholarship recipients, their respective organizations and the sector."

AMA's world-class programs range from general management to project management and executive leadership. Public seminars generally span two to four days and cost on average $1,800. Most scholarship recipients will attend seminars at AMA's Executive Conference Centers in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.

This new scholarship program is one component of AMA's global outreach initiatives designed to bring the advantages of proven management education and professional development training to underserved populations.
