September 2010

Dear Friends:

Inclusion and diversity have always been guiding stars in our work here at Leader to Leader Institute. In January, we launched Leadership Dialogues, a program dedicated to capturing leaders on video from all three sectors, around the world -- addressing compelling leadership issues that help meet the challenges and opportunities of today’s trying times.

On August 10, inclusion and diversity again led our hearts and minds: we collaborated with the Global Dialogue Center's Debbe Kennedy and gathered our global community in a free, LIVE online dialogue: 750 GLOBAL participants representing 36 countries, and over 400 companies and organizations around the world contributed in different ways to the webinar, Leadership By Example.

Virtual WallFrom the beginning, we invited participants to engage in the interactive conversation. Some took the microphone to talk with the group and others made their contributions by writing on the "virtual walls," helping us capture key thoughts as I answered the many questions you all submitted.

Below, you will find a section in this newsletter dedicated to accessing the recorded highlights from this memorable event.

We welcome reflections from your experience of our online global leadership gathering whether you participated in the event --- or if you are experiencing it for the first time through the recorded highlights. We would love to hear from you.

Warm wishes,

Frances Hesselbein

Inclusive Circles: 2009 Leader to Leader Annual Report

Follow On Resources2009 marked the 100th anniversary of Peter Drucker’s birth. Whether in Korea, China, Hong Kong or Claremint, every gathering was a celebration of Peter’s life and work, as is every day at Leader to Leader Institute, founded as the Peter Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management.

Throughout 2009, we worked to provide the inspiration and support needed to strengthen the leadership of the social sector. We were challenged to be good stewards of Drucker’s legacy and the work of the more than 400 thought leaders who have contributed their wisdom to our publications, conferences and training programs.

"It is the circles, the inclusive circles, that free up the energy, the ingenuity, the creative spirits of our people and ourselves — the spirit within the leader that transcends and transforms."
